UGA Symphony Orchestra Concert

Allen Spanjer, a member of the NY Philharmonic joins UGA faculty member Jean Martin-Williams for a performance of Vivaldi's Concerto for 2 Horns. Mr. Spanjer will also be heard in the Mozart Concert Rondo for Horn. The UGA Symphony Orchestra opens the program with Franck's Le Chasseur Maudit and also performs Mozart's Symphony No. 29. The program concludes with one of the greatest works of Ravel, his Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 2.

University Chorus Concert

Mozart 'Requiem': The University Chorus and Chamber Orchestra will present Robert Levin's reconstruction of this famous, classic masterpiece with soloists made up of faculty and alumni: Ellen Ritchey, soprano, Laurie Swann, alto, Gregory Broughton, tenor, and Allen Crowell, bass. Mitos Andaya, conductor.

Saxophone Concert

The birthday of Adolph Sax, Belgian instrument maker, acoustician, and inventor, will be celebrated during this festive concert. Sax, born in Dinant, Belgium on November 6, 1814, was one of the 19th centuryís leading acousticians and inventors of various musical instruments. The best-known of these instruments is the saxophone, invented around 1840 and patented in 1844. Sax invented seven different sizes of saxophones in alternating keys, including: sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass, and contrabass. The saxophone has made its name in all styles of music.

Fall Glee Clubs Concert

The Fall Glee Clubs Concert features the Women's and Men's Glee Clubs and a cappella groups Noteworthy and the Accidentals.

The Women's Glee Club will perform English madrigals by Thomas Weelkes, a Georgia premiere of a French Baroque work by Nicolas ClÈrambault, Romantic music from Johannes Brahms as well as some popular music from Brazilian folk song to gospel music.
