Morgan Weeks

Limited Term Lecturer

Morgan Weeks is a Limited-Term Lecturer at the University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music. He holds a Ph.D. in Music Theory from Louisiana State University with a graduate minor in Experimental Music and Digital Media, a M.M. in Music Theory from Southeastern Louisiana University, and an Instrumental focused B.M.E. with a Fine and Performing Arts minor from Troy University. Prior to UGA, he taught courses in aural skills, music theory fundamentals, graduate music theory review, and music theory for non-majors as a graduate teaching assistant at LSU and SELU.

Weeks’s music theory research interest is in ludomusicology (the study of game music). His current work approaches three aspects of video games: the physical and psychological interaction between the player and music during all moments of gameplay; how software and hardware constraints impact music during the development of a video game; and the analysis of rhythmic techniques attached to stereo and immersive audio. His secondary research area is in video game audio development in which he creates demos to test the application of audio software.

His scholarly work has been presented at national and regional conferences in music theory and ludomusicology, including the North American Conference on Video Game Music, Music Theory Southeast, South Central Society for Music Theory, Music Theory Society and American Musicological Society Joint Conference via the Film and Multimedia Interest Group, and the FSU Music Theory Society’s Annual Music Theory Form.

Weeks is a saxophonist, bass clarinet doubler, and experimental music composer. His current creative work explores music trackers and the use of video game software as compositional and performance spaces. He is also an avid gamer of video games, tabletop games, and trading card games.

Weeks currently teaches music theory for non-majors at UGA.
