How to Give

Thank you for your continued support of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music (HHSOM). There are many ways to support the students and faculty and be a contributor to the growth of the academic and performance programming at HHSOM. Please keep reading to learn about all the ways you can give.

Online 

Support the Hugh Hodgson School of Music by making your gift through UGA Foundation secure online gift processing system. This is an easy and safe way to give to a Hugh Hodgson School of Music program or initiative of your choice. Please browse through the many funds under Giving Opportunities to see the broad selection of departments, projects, ensembles, and areas to support.

Include the name of the fund you wish to support on the check's memo line. Please reference the list of funds located in “Giving Opportunities” if you are unsure which fund you are giving to. You are welcome to include any additional documents or information about your gift with your check.

Gifts of Securities 

Gifts of securities can be transferred easily through your broker, who can transfer shares electronically to UGA Foundation. For gifts or charitable contributions made by transfer of securities, please contact in advance the UGA Office of Gift Accounting at gifts@uga.edu with donor name, name of the stock, number of shares, and benefiting fund. This will ensure that donors are properly credited and receipted for their gifts and ensure that the proper UGA Foundation benefits from your gift.  

In-Kind Gift of Musical Instrument or Musical Items 

Please consider your instrument and how it may serve the Hugh Hodgson School of Music.  

Student and Intermediate quality instruments are welcome to our outreach and teaching arms of HHSOM such as Community Music Schools and the String Project. However, we would prefer these instruments to be built by quality luthiers and manufacturers to ensure that our students and community have quality instruments to use.  

We do accept pianos, band and orchestral instruments, and some other string instruments such as guitars and ukuleles. These instruments will be evaluated by our faculty to determine their suitability for use in the musically demanding environment at HHSOM. Generally, we only accept instruments that are playable condition and from quality manufactures. For more information about your potential gift in kind, please contact the HHSOM development team.  

Other gifts (i.e. audio recordings, musical scores) will be evaluated individually.  

All gifts that have a financial value of more than $5,000 must be appraised and documented in a tax form as required by the IRS. All gifts with a financial value below $5,000 are not required to be appraised by the IRS. The appraiser may not be affiliated with HHSOM.

Larger and Planned Gifts 

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music is dedicated to helping you with your philanthropic interests to our school that accounts for you, your family, your heirs, and UGA. Planned gifts can take many forms, including charitable bequests, gifts of retirement plan assets, gifts of new or existing whole-life insurance policies, and a variety of trusts and gift annuities.
