Undergraduate Piano Auditions

Bachelor of Music - Music Performance audition requirements

Prepare a memorized program of not less than 20 minutes that includes contrasting works from at least three different style periods. At least one of the works should be from the Baroque or Classical period. Sight-reading will also be evaluated.

Bachelor of Music - Music Composition / Music Education / Music Theory / Music Therapy or Bachelor of Arts - Music audition requirements

Prepare a memorized program of not less than 12 minutes that includes contrasting works from at least three different style periods. At least one of the works should be from the Baroque or Classical period. Sight-reading will also be evaluated. 

Music Minor audition requirements

Prepare a memorized program of two contrasting works from different style periods.

Pianists at UGA are welcome to study a variety of musical styles depending on the student’s interest. Questions about the study of jazz and/or commercial music should be directed to the appropriate faculty, Profs. Greg Satterthwaite and James Weidman.

Audition requirements for the study of jazz/commercial music styles:

Please include one song from the standard jazz repertoire for one of the following categories. Improvisation should be included on all selections.

  • Ballad-must be performed solo piano
  • Medium tempo swing tune
  • A tune from a well know artist or band (any style)

At least one selection should include accompanying (comping) for a bass or other instrument solo.
