Graduate Student Forms

MASTER'S STUDENTS

MA in Musicology

MA students must complete a thesis and final oral examination by a committee of at least three music faculty members (including at least two members of the musicology/ethnomusicology faculty). To establish a MA Advisory Committee, a student confers with possible committee members to determine their willingness to serve. Then the student emails the Graduate Office (musicgrad@uga.edu) with the names of their intended committee members.

Prior to taking their final oral examination, the final program of study must be submitted by the student and approved by the student's advisory committee and the HHSOM Graduate Coordinator. Students submit their final program of study in GradStatus, form 138: https://gradstatus.uga.edu/Forms/G138.

The examination is scheduled during the last semester of the student's academic work. Students must submit a MA approval form, form 140 in GradStatus: https://gradstatus.uga.edu/Forms/G140.

MM in Composition, Conducting, Music Therapy, Performance, and Performance and Pedagogy

A final oral examination in music history and literature, music theory, and the candidate's major area is required of all candidates for the master's degree. The examination is scheduled during the last semester of the student's academic work and is administered by a three-member committee representing the student's major area (at least two members) and other fields.

The HHSOM requires a MM Comprehensive Examination form be completed and submitted to musicgrad@uga.edu. Instructions and the MM Comprehensive Examination form are available to HHSOM Students on the HHSOM Communications eLC website in the Essential Forms for Master's students folder: https://uga.view.usg.edu/d21/login.

The UGA Graduate School requires all MM students have an approved program of study on file in the beginning of the semester in which they plan to graduate. Instructions on how to submit the MM Program of Study form are available to HHSOM students on the HHSOM Communications eLC website in the Essential Forms for Master's Students folder: https://uga.view.usg.edu/d21/login.

The MM Program of Study form is available here (please refer to the instructions document before accessing the program of study form): https://grad.uga.edu/current-students/forms/. From this link, please select under Master's Students Program of Study (Non-Doctoral Professional Degrees).
