Tickets: $5

Georgia Children’s Chorus (GCC), a 100-voice choir in-residence at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia, presents Somewhere Over the Rainbow!, its spring concert on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center on campus.

The chorus is directed by Carol Reeves and accompanied by Erica McClellan. Concert selections include a rainbow-themed medley, featuring the perennial classic Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and pieces sung in Zambian, Serbian, Hebrew, and Latin, including selections from Leonard Bernstein’s Mass. John Rutter’s All Things Bright and Beautiful, and a traditional gospel piece also showcase the diverse musical styles the choir has learned this year.

Concert tickets are $5 each, available online at georgiachildrenschorus.org, or by contacting GCC at gcc@uga.edu or 706.542.8711. Also available are $5 raffle tickets to win a painting of a site of the winner’s choosing by Athens artist Jamie Calkin, known for his colorful, fishbowl view of iconic Athens buildings. The lucky winner will be drawn at the concert, but need not be present to win.
