Second Thursday Scholarship Series 2012/2013

Some things are to be expected every time the fall semester rolls around.

Traffic. Classes.  More people downtown.  All-nighters. Football...

... and the Second Thursday Scholarship Series at University of Georgia's Performing Arts Center.

For years, the Second Thursday concerts have been bringing the finest musicianship the Hugh Hodgson School of Music has to offer, giving everyone in the Athens community a chance to see the incredible musicianship that happens every day on East Campus.

Established in 1980, the 2^nd Thursday Scholarship Series offers showcase performances by UGA students and faculty the second Thursday of each month throughout the academic year. Proceeds from individual ticket sales and season subscriptions allow for year-long academic scholarships and assistantships for students and presents donors the opportunity to sponsor individual students of the music school at several levels of giving. In 2011, the 2^nd Thursday series provided scholarships to 30 students based on faculty recommendations, academic achievement and performance ability.

In 2012, the Second Thursday series offers the same incredible musicianship and provides audiences with a motley cross-section of performers culled from UGA's faculty and students.

The 2012/2013 season's concerts include:

- September 13 - UGA Symphony Orchestra's All Dvořák Concert
- October 11 & 13 - UGA Opera Workshop
- November 8 - A Southern Wind Serenade with the Georgia Woodwind Quintet and Friends
- November 29 & 30 - UGA Holiday Concert (UGASO)
- January 10 - Evgeny Rivkin, piano
- February 14 - On the Road with the UGA Wind Ensemble
- March 21 - Steinway Spectacular (UGA Piano Faculty)
- April 11 - Romantic and Elegiaque: Chamber Music for Strings & Piano (Profs. Ambartsumian, Azimkhodjaeva, Starkweather, & Rivkin)

Of course, the Second Thursday series is just the tip of the iceberg.  Year-round, the Hugh Hodgson School of Music continues to offer up displays of outstanding talent, from faculty recitals to large ensembles.
