The UGA Percussion Ensemble plays its fall concert on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. in Ramsey Hall.

The ensemble, overseen by Hugh Hodgson School of Music faculty members Timothy Adams Jr. and Kimberly Toscano Adams, will perform pieces all written within the last 100 years in this free concert.

“This is a journey through the decades for concert percussion, spanning the years 1931 to 2009,” said Toscano Adams. “The ensemble will take on works by John Cage, Eugene O'Brien, Philip Scheussler, and more, culminating with Edgard Varèse's masterpiece, 'Ionisation'.”

Performance of contemporary works is a point of pride for the ensemble. They have performed world premieres of several new works, including “Song of Middle Earth” by Daniel McCarthy, commissioned for the UGA percussion studio.

The UGA Percussion Ensemble has performed extensively throughout the Southeast, including numerous appearances at Georgia Music Educators Association state conventions and appearances at various "Day of Percussion" programs.

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music sponsors more than 350 performances each year. To view the performance calendar, subscribe to the weekly email concert listing or learn more about the School of Music, go to music.uga.edu.
