The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Georgia is holding a fundraising gala at the Athens Country Club on Sunday, April 3, at 4 p.m. and the entertainment will be home-grown: opera singers from the UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music.

Beginning at 4 p.m. with appetizers, cash bar and a silent auction, the OLLI event will welcome UGA Opera Theatre students at 5 p.m., the latest in a long partnership between the opera and OLLI.

OLLI is encouraging donations during the event to support scholarship awards for the opera students so that they might enter summer artist programs held across the globe.

At last year’s event, seven students received $1,500 each and two received $500 each in OLLI@UGA Opera Scholarship Awards. Their 2016 goal is to provide 10 students with a $2,000 award each to participate in these programs, highly sought-after in the opera world.

Tickets are $50 each and available at olli.uga.edu or in the OLLI office until March 30.

OLLI is dedicated to meeting the intellectual, social and cultural needs of mature adults through lifelong learning. It is one of the 119 Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes across the country, each institute associated with a U.S. college or university.

The UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music sponsors more than 350 performances each year. To view the performance calendar, subscribe to the weekly email concert listing or learn more about the School of Music, go to music.uga.edu.
