Music Education Presentation at International Symposium

UGA Music Education Faculty Rebecca Atkins (left) and Alison Farley (right) traveled to Warsaw, Poland in August, 2023 and presented at the International Symposium for Performance Science (ISPS) alongside distinguished colleagues and UGA students.

Farley, along with Kristen Lynch (faculty/PhD MusEd ’23), Molly Blair (PhD MusEd ’23) and Levi Dean (ABD MusEd) presented “Exploring identity as it impacts the teaching, learning, and performance of music.” Farley also presented “Self-compassion training for music university students: examining a protocol for inclusion in university level programs” alongside Jamey Kelley (collaborator, University of North Texas) and Ian Cicco (collaborator, University of Southern Mississippi).

Atkins presented “Practice behaviors and gaze patterns on sight-singing tasks: An eye-tracking study” which explored  musicians’ cognitive activities and strategies sight-singing new music passages that increased in difficulty level. Benjamin Brown (Undergraduate CURO Honors Scholar earning his BA in Music and BS in Computer Science) continues to analyze the data in this project and will present further results at GMEA January 26, 2024 at the poster session.
