Assistant Professor of Guitar

Daniel Bolshoy is committed to bringing the guitar to the attention of audiences everywhere. He is regularly praised for his friendly and informative spoken introductions, and progressive programming of solo and chamber music. His concert tours take him from prestigious international concert stages to remote villages and house-concerts. Daniel Bolshoy has performed as a soloist with over sixty orchestras internationally and across Canada, including the: Mexico City Philharmonic, Israel Chamber, Volgograd Symphony (Russia), and the symphony orchestras of New Mexico, Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Kingston, Victoria, Okanagan, Saskatoon, Nova Scotia, as well as the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the Ottawa Chamber, and many others. An avid chamber musician, he has performed at numerous chamber music festival and concert series throughout North America, collaborating with some of Canada’s greatest soloists. Daniel Bolshoy appears on seven commercial CD recordings: Resonance, España (Boldan Music). McGillicuddy’s Rant (Centaur Classics), Isabel Bayrakdarian’s Tango Notturno (CBC Records), Marc Hervieux’s A Napoli (ATMA) and A time to heal, with Pinchas Zukerman and members of the NAC. His most recent solo CD Soñando Caminos (ATMA) is devoted to the works of Spanish composer Eduardo Sainz de la Maza. His recitals are frequently broadcast on CBC Radio, and he has also appeared in two documentary films for the Bravo! (TV) series entitled The Classical Now. Daniel Bolshoy has adjudicated many international music competitions, including the Guitar Foundation of America, Guitar-Gems festival in Israel, the Tabula Rasa festival in Russia, and the National Finals of the Canadian Federation of Music Festivals. Dr. Bolshoy holds a D.M. Degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and teaches at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia. His students have won awards in competitions, and scholarships to leading Universities and Conservatories, including awards in the Federation of Canadian Music Festival, The Northwest, The Guitar Foundation of America, the Parkening, and the Alessandria (Italy) International Guitar competitions.
