Focusing on repertoire from 1685 to 1900, this course will both reinforce and deepen students' understanding of the principles that govern tonal music. Begins with a review of fundamental concepts and proceeds to a study of species counterpoint, diatonic harmony, chromatic harmony, small-scale and large-scale forms, recent analytical methods, and theory pedagogy.
