Ellyn H. Evans

Assistant Professor of Music Therapy

Ellyn H. Evans, PhD, MT-BC, (NICU-MT) is an Assistant Professor of Music Therapy. She received her Ph.D. in Music Education with an emphasis in Music Therapy (2020) and M.M. in Music Therapy from Florida State University (2013).  She received her B.M. in Music Therapy from The University of Alabama (2011). She is a Fellow of the National Institute of Infant and Child Medical Music Therapy and is a collaborator in the Early Notes Network, a music therapy consortium for childhood neurodevelopment.

 

Her research and teaching interests include medical music therapy and music therapy in early childhood intervention, with particular focus on Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Music Therapy (NICU-MT). Dr. Evans' publications appear in a variety of refereed journals including Acta Paediatrica, Advances in Neonatal Care, Developmental Neuropsychology, and Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology.

 

Before coming to UGA, Dr. Evans was a research coordinator in the Early Neurodevelopment and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory at the Research Institute of Nationwide Children’s Hospital as well as a clinician in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Previously, she worked as a research assistant and music therapist at Monroe Carrel Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in the Division of Neonatology. She also served on the faculty at Belmont University as an adjunct professor of Music Therapy teaching Introduction to Music Therapy and Music Therapy Foundations and Principles.
