PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION CAREFULLY BEFORE INITIATING REGISTRATION AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE.

MUSI 1700/3700 is a course that consists of one-on-one instruction on a musical instrument for academic credit.  MUSI 1700 is private music instruction for UGA students in their 1st  through 2nd year of undergraduate studies.  MUSI 3700 is private music instruction for UGA students in their 3rd through 5th year of undergraduate studies.

(If you would like to register for private lessons NOT for credit, please visit https://www.music.uga.edu/cms-private.)

DETAILS:

~ All levels accepted—beginners welcome

~ All band/orchestra instruments are offered, as well as classical voice, piano, classical guitar, folk styles and instruments, as well as popular styles.

~ Earn 1 credit hour of UGA academic credit per semester through 13 30-minute private lessons and one additional seminar.  Courses may be repeated for a maximum of 4 credit hours in each course.

~ Instructors are qualified UGA faculty and UGA teaching assistants in music.

~ Students will be assigned to a teacher by the Community Music School staff about 1-week before lessons begin each semester.  Lessons generally begin one week after other credited courses.

~ Following this assignment, lesson times will be arranged individually to meet your academic schedule.

~ With the exception of pianists and percussionists, you must own, rent, or have access to your own instrument. Pianists and percussionists can have access to School of Music practice room instruments. (Athens-area businesses selling or renting musical instruments)

~ Grades are assigned based on lesson attendance, practice time (minimum 3 hrs/week), and progress.

~ Practice rooms are available on a limited schedule in the Hodgson School of Music Building; it is best if you have access to your own practice facilities

~ These private music lessons are offered through the UGA Community Music School (CMS), which includes a lesson charge of $390 for the semester.

The fee for these lessons is NOT covered by HOPE Scholarships, and cannot be paid through Student Accounts.   Full payment via credit card using the link below is the first step in registering for the course.  Important: We need the card owner's name and address along with credit card information. This must be the name of the person who registered the card, and the address where the bills are received.

Please be sure to leave some information in the comment box of your registration regarding your prior musical experience (if any), and any instructional goals you may have in taking these lessons.  Let us also know if you would prefer a non-classical style, as well as any scheduling concerns you may have.

Students can register for the lessons through the Add/Drop period each semester.   Refunds will not be given once the Add/Drop period is over.  Please note that in some semesters, Add/Drop ends before these lessons actually start.

You must register in two ways:
1.) Click the register button below and follow the registration steps for the Community Music School (including paying the fee).

AND

2.) Register for the course in Athena in order to receive UGA Credit and add the course to your schedule.  You will receive an email confirmation from CMS letting you know when your Permission of Department is completed.
