The UGA Wind Symphony will guide an audience through a musical tour of a galaxy far, far away when it plays the music of Star Wars for its Saturday Morning Club concert in Hodgson Concert Hall on Saturday, October 22, at 10 a.m.

The second of five concerts in the UGA Performing Arts Center's Saturday Morning Club series, this free-to-attend performance will be led by the conductor of the UGA Wind Symphony, Jaclyn Hartenberger.

“We will be not only listening to but learning about the masterful works of John Williams,” said Hartenberger. “It will be out of this galaxy, and you won't want to miss it.”

Hartenberger said her inspiration for the program comes from Leonard Bernstein’s “Young People’s Concerts,” which ran from 1958-1972. These concerts were landmarks in a variety of ways, including being the first concert series to be televised from the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and, perhaps most importantly, being the introduction to classical music for many over its 14 years.

Hartenberger is aiming for this concert to be a true family concert—appealing to all ages. The multi-generational appeal of Star Wars will find third-graders, college seniors and baby-boomers equally at home.

The Saturday Morning Club is a series of free concerts for young people, by young people. These interactive performances feature performances by UGA student ensembles and other young performers. Music lovers of any age are encouraged to come and enjoy this family-friendly activity.
