HHSOM Building

Dear HHSOM Family,

We are excited to welcome back familiar faces and new faces, all masked, to the School of Music. While this semester and season won't be starting as we are all used to, we would like you to know that the music will continue. We have been working diligently to learn, listen, and gather as much information as we can about COVID-19 and music-making, in an effort to determine how we can proceed safely, mitigate risks, and do our part to stop the spread of the virus in our community and in the world. We have worked with doctors, researchers, and specialists from around the nation to determine best practices as they are currently understood.

Our primary goal remains the safety and health of our entire family: students, faculty, staff, and community, and we are taking every step we can to promote safety and health in our building. As we do this, we are looking for ways to maximize opportunities and provide quality musical experiences and instruction.

This pandemic has taught us all that things can change quickly, and the information below may change as situations change around us or as more information becomes available. There are many questions that remain unanswered, and we will continue to work to find solutions.

While the Thursday Scholarship Series, Faculty Artist Series and Large Ensemble Series we had planned at the beginning of last spring semester won't be happening this semester, we are working together to come up with creative alternatives to the typical performance hall seated concert. All of our large ensembles, with the exception of Orchestra, will be moving to online instruction. We are excited to share that each and every one of our student recitals will be live-streamed, so you can watch what our students are up to from home! We hope to have some outdoor concerts later in the semester, and some concert video options as well. Please stay tuned!

With thanks,

Dr. Jutras
