Myriam Athanas Faulkner is the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. Dr. Athanas earned a Ph.D. and an M.M.Ed. from the University of Georgia, and graduated summa cum laude with a B.M. in Music Education from Kennesaw State University. Her research interests include pre-service teacher training, scale development, and broad applications of assessment and educational measurement in music education. She continues to present research at the international and national levels. 

The Athens Hip Hop Harmonic has an exciting video dropping across all of the HHSOM social media channels this Wednesday, 2.2.22! Local rapper Kxng Blanco teamed up with composition faculty Peter Van Zandt Lane to create the piece performed by the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble. Stay tuned for more collaborations and music!

Acclaimed for "a remarkable technique, tone and lyricism,” clarinetist D. Ray McClellan, will present a program with selections for clarinet & piano, followed by a variety of chamber music offerings and genres for his Faculty Artist Series concert. The concert will take place at 7:30 in Ramsey Hall on Feb. 8.

Praised by the New York Times as a pianist with “assurance and vitality,” Alan Woo made his Lincoln Center debut at Alice Tully Hall performing with the Juilliard Orchestra under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He has since collaborated with conductors Daniel Hege, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, and Tito Muñoz in solo appearances with the Houston and Fort Worth Symphonies, and the Music Academy of the West Festival Orchestra.

Start the holiday season off right by coming to Hodgson Hall for the return of the live Hugh Hodgson School of Music Annual Holiday Concerts. Audiences will be able to enjoy holiday classics and more to get into the spirit of the season, with performances by multiple ensembles. The concerts are part of the Thursday Scholarship Series and will take place Dec. 2nd and 3rd at 7:30 p.m. The Bulldog Brass Society will play outside the PAC for a festive beginning to the evening before the concert.

Zaira Castillo, 2020-21 UGA ArtsLab Fellow and recipient of Willson Center Graduate Research Award, presents the premiere screening of a documentary including world-premiere performances of specially commissioned musical works.

Join the African American Choral Ensemble and the UGA Wind Ensemble as they share the stage in a combined concert on Friday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. 

On Wednesday, November 17, UGA’s Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony perform a combined concert in Hodgson Concert Hall.  The concert is a featured performance in the University’s annual Spotlight on the Arts festival.  The program’s selections evoke emotions of memorial, remembrance, and hope.

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music continues its Thursday Scholarship Series with a concert featuring the Jazz Ensemble and Glee Clubs in Hodgson Hall on Nov. 18 at 7:30. The performance is part of the Spotlight on the Arts Festival, happening on campus throughout November.
