The Hugh Hodgson School of Music Opera Theatre program will be taking the Hodgson Hall stage for a weekend of performances of Wargo’s “A Visit to the Country” and Walton’s “The Bear.” Opening night is Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on Nov. 14 at 3 p.m.

A manipulated fiancé leaves a young woman yearning for love, while a devastated widow takes a shot at loving again with an unexpected caller. Audiences will lose themselves in the passion of Wargo and Walton’s rich and sensuous scores.

Under direction of Phil Smith, The UGA British Brass Band will be featuring music by outstanding composer, James Curnow on Friday, November 5th at 7:30 in Hodgson Hall.

This long-awaited choral program, entitled, “Hard Times Come Again No More” will feature both the University Chorus and the UGA Hodgson Singers.  The University Chorus (JD Burnett, artistic director/conductor) will be conducted by DMA conducting student, Sarah Frook Gallo in a program spanning three centuries of choral/orchestral repertoire and featuring Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s rarely performed Hiob Cantata, a Bach-inspired Romantic cantata on texts from the book of Job, written in 1831.  Works by Giovanni Martini and living composer, Michael John Tr

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music Faculty Artist Series continues with piano aficionado and resident accompanist Damon Denton performing Nov. 9 at 7:30 pm in Ramsey Hall as part of the Spotlight on the Arts Festival.

James Weidman will be featured in a solo/duo piano recital featuring special guests Gregory Broughton and David D’Angelo on Tuesday, November 2nd at 7:30 in Ramsey Hall. The musical selections will include Weidman’s compositions along with music by jazz composers John Lewis and John Coltrane. Also included are selections by American Songbook Composers, Irving Berlin and Jule Styne.

Join us as our fall season Faculty Artist Series continues with a concert by Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium, Dr. Matthew Shipes, at 7:30 in Ramsey Hall on Tuesday, October 19th. Joining him on piano is resident accompanist Anatoly Sheludyakov.

This program will feature several recent, original works for the tuba and the euphonium, all of which will be recorded on an upcoming CD this fall. Dr. Shipes will perform with Dr. Sheludyakov on piano for much of the program, as well as with pre-recorded accompaniment.

On Wednesday, October 13, UGA’s Symphonic Band begins its season in Hodgson Concert Hall.

Join us in Hodgson Hall on Tuesday, October 12th s the Ensemble Series continues with a concert by the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra at 7:30.

The program includes pieces by Joan Tower, Walter Piston and Howard Hanson. "Made in America" was written by Joan Tower, who was born in 1938 in South America and came to the US for the first time when she was 9.

An all-star group of University of Georgia faculty joins together on the Hodgson Hall stage to perform Wynton Marsalis’ A Fiddler’s Tale as part of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s Thursday Scholarship Series on Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
