In New York City, students will attend jazz performances and Broadway shows, tour recording facilities used for soundtracks, attend a seminar on the American Federation of Musicians, learn about union function, spend individual time with working musicians, and keep a small book on experiences to share with the class.

Double Reed Making Seminar

1 hour. Repeatable for maximum 8 hours credit.

Oboe and bassoon players will learn how to create and finish reeds for their instruments. The course will cover the fundamentals of making a blank, exploring different reed scrapes and styles, and focus on detailed finishing techniques.

Music Therapy Internship
Credit Hours:
1-6 hours. Repeatable for maximum 8 hours credit.

In-depth experience of clinical training in a professional setting. Experience in all aspects of music therapy practice in preparation for Board Certification.

Nontraditional Format:

Fieldwork under the continuous, qualified supervision of a licensed music therapist (the equivalent of approximately six months of full-time work).

Continuation of senior level of practical experience in conducting music therapy sessions with selected clients. Includes more in-depth assessment, planning, implementation, and documentation of weekly music therapy sessions throughout the semester.

Nontraditional Format:

Field work under the supervision of a licensed music therapist (2-4 hours per week in the field plus preparation time).

Provides an overview of technologies essential to professional musicians in the 21st century. Meeting in the MuTec lab, this course offers hands-on instruction in a variety of relevant music software. Coursework is primarily creative projects, with some written examination on fundamentals.
