The Holiday Concerts are coming early this year

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music will present its annual Holiday Concert on Nov. 21-22 at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall as the final Thursday Scholarship Series performances of this calendar year. The program features the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra, combined choirs of Glee Clubs, University Chorus, and Hodgson Singers. 

Brandon Craswell plays songs for his daughter in Faculty Artist Series

The Hugh Hodgson School of Musicwill continue its Faculty Artist Series with a concert by Brandon Craswell, associate professor of trumpet. 

The program, “Songs for my Daughter,” is set for Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Concert Hall and will include a mix of classical, jazz, pop and even boogie woogie styles. 

UGA Opera Theatre presents fall opera, Lucia di Lammermoor

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music UGA Opera Theatre, in collaboration with the UGA Symphony Orchestra and Hodgson Singers conducted by Mark Cedel, will present to the Athens community for the first time one of the most famous dramatic operas in the entire repertoire, Gaetano Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor.” A semi-staged and costumed concert version of this masterpiece will be presented Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. in Hodgson Hall at the Performing Arts Center. 

ARCO Chamber Orchestra Concert

The ARCO Chamber Orchestra’s next performance will feature a variety of music. The first half of the concert will include two contrasting concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach and Efram Podgaits that are three centuries apart. The second half of the concert will include Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s famous keyboard work The Seasons.

The concert will take place on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall.

UGA Symphony Orchestra to perform in Ensemble Series

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s Ensemble Series continues on Thursday, September 26 at 7:30 with a concert by the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra in Hodgson Hall. “This concert celebrates nationalism in music,” says Director of Orchestral ActivitiesMark Cedel. 

 

The first part of the concert features favorite works of two of our greatest American composers.  To open the concert, Dr. Jaclyn Hartenberger, Associate Director of Bands, will guest conduct Samuel Barber's hauntingly beautiful Adagio for Strings
