Peter Van Zandt Lane named new composition professor

The University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music is pleased to announce Peter Van Zandt Lane as new assistant professor of composition beginning Fall 2015. Dr. Lane, who currently serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Florida will be taking over direction of the Dancz Center for New Music.

Lane marks the second Theory-Composition area hire, joining Jesse Jones this coming fall.

Convocation 2015

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music 2015 Convocation will take place on May 7th at 5:00 pm in Hodgson Concert Hall.

Tickets for the event may be reserved by contacting Edith Hollander at edith@uga.edu or by calling 706-542-2701. The event will also be live streamed on the HHSOM website.

This year's speaker will be West Point Band euphonium player and HHSOM alumnus Jason Ham.

Whit Davis Elementary School students, under the direction of Rachel Osborne, recently performed a special concert in Edge Hall at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. The event, covered by the Athens-Banner Herald, showcased what Osborne's students have learned over the past year.



For the third year in a row, the National Music Association of Music Merchants Foundation named Clarke County one of America's top music education communities.

Jesse Jones named new assistant professor of composition

The University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music is pleased to announce Jesse Jones as its new assistant professor of composition beginning Fall 2015. Dr. Jones holds a DMA in Music Composition from Cornell University, and for the past three years has been an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina.  Among many other honors, he holds awards and commissions from the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the Aspen Music Festival, Tanglewood, the American Composers Orchestra, and a Rome Prize, with a year in residence at the American Academy in Rome.

Hodgson Singers close 2014-15 2nd Thursday Series

Piano professor Zimdars releases new album

Richard Zimdars, Despy Karlas Professor of Piano at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, will perform a lecture-recital surveying the contents of his new album, Piano Character Pieces from Four Continents, at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12. The event, which takes place in the Hodgson School’s Edge Recital Hall, will be followed by a CD signing and light refreshments in the adjacent Choral Suite.

UGA launches online Master of Music Education degree

The University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music is pleased to announce a new online Master of Music Education degree program.

The program, geared toward providing post-graduate professional development to in-service music educators, will begin taking applicants immediately, with coursework beginning summer 2015.
