Wind Ensemble on North Campus

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

The Wind Ensemble enlivened an already beautiful Fall afternoon the last Friday in September with its second Concert on the Lawn. The students, Dr. Lynch, guest soloists Michael Heald and Brandon Craswell , and PAC director George Foreman all did a terrific job, as a few more folks on campus discovered the musicianship and precision of the Wind Ensemble. A few highlights, plus some shots of North Campus:

Nice article about the New Horizons and the Community Music School in the Athens Banner Herald:

The band actually grew out of the University of Georgia's Community Music School, a part of UGA's Hugh Hodgson School of Music, said Kristin Jutras, director of the community music school, which offers private lessons and other musical opportunities to UGA students as well as people in Athens and surrounding communities.

After its great success with this concert last fall, the Concert on the Lawn is back. The UGA Bands invite the UGA and Athens community to join us on Friday, September 30 from 12:30-1:45 on the Lawn of UGA's North Campus near the Arch. The concert features the UGA Wind Ensemble conducted by John Lynch, Director of Bands and George Foreman,  Director of the Performing Arts Center.  Bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy an afternoon of entertaining pops music from Broadway to Hollywood to light classics to patriotic marches!

Symphony Review

Congratulations to Mr. Cedel and all the members of the Symphony Orchestra on a job well done in last night's concert.

Bernstein's “Overture to Candide” is a perennial favorite, five or so rollicking minutes that are a workout for the musicians and an effervescent experience for the listener. Given Bernstein's penchant for turning rhythm on its ear, the orchestra, anchored by Cedel's presence on the podium, turned in a performance that exceeded expectations.
