U.S. Army Brass Quintet on campus Tuesday

The U.S. Army Brass Quintet will be at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music on Tuesday, Oct. 31, performing in Edge Hall starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Q&A session with the audience. This event is free.

"We are extremely fortunate and excited to have the premier brass chamber ensemble of the U.S. Army Band on campus to perform and interact with our students," said Dr. Joshua Bynum, associate professor of trombone and coordinator of this event.

November Thursday Scholarship Series to Showcase Faculty and Student Wind Chamber Music

The November edition of the Thursday Scholarship Series will join together the Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s best student wind chamber ensembles with their faculty counterparts in a program featuring works ranging from the Renaissance to the modern day. The concert will be Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall.

UGA Opera Theatre takes on ambitious, unprecedented project with “Viva Verdi”

Thirteen UGA Opera Theatre soloists, the UGA University Chorus and the UGA Symphony Orchestra join for two performances celebrating the works of opera master Giuseppe Verdi when the UGA Opera Theatre mounts its annual fall performance in Hodgson Concert Hall on Saturday, Oct. 21, and Sunday, Oct. 22.

Hodgson School brass area concert honors former professor of trumpet Fred Mills

The music of legendary trumpet player and former Hugh Hodgson School of Music faculty member Fred Mills is the focus of a special recital from the Hodgson School’s brass area in Ramsey Concert Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 8 p.m.

Mills was an early and long-tenured member of the world-renowned brass quintet Canadian Brass, playing with the ensemble from 1972 to 1996, when he joined the Hodgson School faculty as professor of trumpet, a post he held until his untimely passing in 2009.

The University of Georgia Redcoat Band celebrates two major anniversaries in 2017, one that draws on the memory of one of the band’s great innovators and another that honors one of UGA football’s most popular pregame traditions.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the pregame “Battle Hymn” and the 25th anniversary of the Phyllis Dancz Memorial Award, two traditions of tremendous importance to generations of Redcoats.

Faculty series recital focuses on viola with all-French inspired, interconnected program

Maggie Snyder, associate professor of viola at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, performs the October entry to the Hugh Hodgson Faculty Series in Ramsey Concert Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 8 p.m. 

Accompanied by Damon Denton on piano, Snyder will perform a recital of all-French inspired music, including works from Nadia Boulanger, George Enescu, Camargo Guarnieri, Maurice Ravel and Marcelle Soulage.
