UGA Symphony Orchestra and Hodgson Wind Ensemble Perform in Rare Combination Concert

When two of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s premiere large ensembles join forces, it is sure to be an evening to remember. The Hodgson Wind Ensemble (HWE) and the UGA Symphony Orchestra (UGASO) will take the Hodgson Hall stage at 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 27th.

 

“This is only the second time in my 25 years the orchestra and the wind ensemble have been on the same concert,” according to Mark Cedel, Director and conductor of the UGASO. “We look forward to sharing our music and our audiences.”

 

Professor of Horn Jean Martin-Williams kicks off the 2018-2019 Faculty Artist Series

This season’s Faculty Artist Series begins with Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor of Horn Dr. Jean Martin-Williams, who is also an Associate Dean in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 13th in Ramsey Hall. Joining Dr. Martin-Williams on stage for the first time in a solo recital will be faculty pianist Damon Denton.

 

UGA Symphony Orchestra to Perform for Thursday Scholarship Series Season Opener

The University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music will open its 2018-2019 Thursday Scholarship Series with a dynamic concert by The University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra (UGASO).

 

The UGASO is one of the school’s premier ensembles. Performing under the baton of Mark Cedel, the UGASO is dedicated to the study and performance of significant orchestral music, which will be apparent when listening to their program.

 

Legendary Athens artist Jamie Calkin Paints The Hugh

Legendary Athens artist Jamie Calkin recently completed a commission to paint the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. The original is 2’x3’ and will hang in the “kiss and cry” area near the stage door of Edge Hall. Prints of the painting are now available on Jamie’s site, and are available in many sizes.

Duo Piano Concert with Guest Artist Judith Gordon

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music and the piano area are pleased to welcome distinguished guest artist Judith Gordon. Since making her New York City recital debut at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ms. Gordon has performed across the country and collaborated with many of the leading musicians of today including Yo-Yo Ma, John Harbison, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Cynthia Phelps, and Peter Serkin. In 2009, she received an Outstanding Alumni Award from the New England Conservatory in Boston and is currently an associate professor of piano at Smith College, MA.
