UGA-Atlanta Symphony Composer Workshop

Robert Spano, musical director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchstra, will be visiting UGA on Friday, March 23rd for a day of events supported by the President's Venture Fund, the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, and the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts. 

 

Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony will read and rehearse the compositions of the 6 winners of the UGA/ASO Composers Workshop Call-For-Scores. This event will take place in Hodgson Hall from 1:30pm-4:00 pm.
 

This event is free and open to the public!
 

Grammy nominee to give lecture on recording studio design

Recording studios have evolved greatly over the past 50 years, to the point where today’s hobbyist has more tools and tracks than the greatest studios of the 1960’s or ’70’s, with far greater capabilities for fine-tuning a mix, editing, or even removing noises and correcting intonation problems. What hasn’t changed is the necessity for acoustically superior spaces when recording acoustic instruments, and the need to listen to the recording in an environment which is trustworthy and which translates well to other listening environments.

Thursday Scholarship Series features UGA Hodgson Singers

The Thursday Scholarship Series welcomes the UGA Hodgson Singers to the stage on March 22nd. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall located in the Performing Arts Center next to the Hugh Hodgson School of Music (HHSOM).

 

The Hodgson Singers serve as the flagship choral ensemble of the HHSOM and are comprised of UGA’s most gifted and talented vocalists. Membership is contingent upon absolute excellence in musicianship, vocal artistry, and dedication.

 

Guest Artist Julio Alves in residency at UGA

Julio Alves, Professor of Guitar at Marshall University, will be giving a Masterclass at 1:30 in room 410 of the School of Music and will be in concert at 6:30 in Edge Hall today, Monday, Marh 5th.

Dr. Alves is an exciting and informative performer who will be playing music from Brazil as well as traditional classical guitar selections. His concert will feature pieces written specifically for him, as well as music inspired by popular Brazilian music.
