Low brass takes center stage in UGA Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble concert

The UGA Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble will perform their fall concert on Monday, Nov. 2 in Ramsey Concert Hall at 8 p.m.

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s premier low brass ensemble, the UGA Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble’s program includes works ranging from Mozart to Wagner to Kenyon Wilson, performed under the direction of David Zerkel, the School of Music’s professor of tuba and euphonium.

UGA Trombone Choir & Ensemble fall concert set for Nov. 2

The trombone studio of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music will showcase some of its best during the UGA Trombone Choir & Ensemble fall concert on Monday, Nov. 2, in Ramsey Concert Hall at 6 p.m.

Both groups are directed by the School of Music’s associate professor of trombone, Joshua Bynum. The program for the concert includes pieces by Bach, Brahms, Mussorgsky and others.

Hodgson Wind Ensemble to perform ‘epic’ concert for Second Thursday series

In both theme and sound, the audience attending the next performance in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s Second Thursday Scholarship Series will experience an evening of epic proportions. 

The Hodgson Wind Ensemble (HWE) takes to the Hodgson Concert Hall stage on Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. for the November edition of the School of Music's popular concert series. 

The performance comprises two pieces: David Maslanka’s Symphony No. 8 and Oliver Waespi’s “Audivi Media Nocte.”

UGA British Brass Band to perform fall concert

One of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s newest ensembles, the UGA British Brass Band, plays its fall concert in Hodgson Concert Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 8:00 p.m.

Directed by professor of trumpet Phil Smith, the William F. and Pamela P. Prokasy Professor in the Arts, the 32-piece brass and percussion ensemble will perform the music of Dmitri Shostakovich and Mily Balakirev, as well as several English, Canadian and American composers of brass band repertoire.

Guest artist concert brings Juilliard, UGA alums to HHSOM

Dr. ToniMarie Marchioni will come to the Hugh Hodgson School of Music on Friday, Oct. 23, as yet another decorated guest artist ready to entertain and educate. 

 

Marchioni, the Juilliard-educated assistant professor of oboe at the University of Kentucky, will perform a free recital in Ramsey Concert Hall at 3:35 p.m.

Hugh Hodgson Faculty Series translates voice to woodwinds in Nov. performance

The next installment of the Hugh Hodgson Faculty Series will employ a trio of School of Music faculty to transform works for voice and piano into new, imaginative constructions.

The creator of the program—and several of the arrangements therein—is Connie Frigo, associate professor of saxophone at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. For her, the Nov. 3 recital, set for 8 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall, is a high-water mark.
