Faculty Artist Series: Daniel Bolshoy

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music will kick off the Spring 2021 semester with a Faculty Artist Series concert by guitar faculty Dr. Daniel Bolshoy. The program consists of all original music for guitar and has been pre-recorded by Dr. Bolshoy in a video which will premiere on the HHSOM YouTube channel on Wednesday, January 13th at 7 p.m.

 

Faculty Artist Series features Maggie Snyder’s VIOLA2020

Hugh Hodgson School of Music professor Maggie Snyder’s Faculty Artist Series concert will be presented with a twist. The recital will be premiered as a concert film featuring four pieces intermingled alongside interviews with the performers and composers. The video is set to premiere during Spotlight on the Arts on Nov. 17 at 8 p.m.

On the eighth floor of Creswell Residential Hall in October 1970, Nawanna Lewis had an idea that would add to the University of Georgia’s cultural fabric over the next 50 years. On October 18, 1970 Pastor Nawanna Lewis Miller (’73) became the Founding Director of Pamoja Organizations. Pamoja is Swahili for “together” or “one.”

UGA at Oxford program to offer music courses starting in 2021

For the first time in its twenty-five-year history, the UGA at Oxford program will offer music classes for credit on the University of Oxford campus. The Franklin Spring Session II will take place from Mar. 25-Jun. 19, 2021. The Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s Jazz Faculty, Dave D’Angelo, will be onsite at Oxford teaching courses.

 

Ellyn H. Evans

Ellyn H. Evans, PhD, MT-BC, (NICU-MT) is an Assistant Professor of Music Therapy. She received her Ph.D. in Music Education with an emphasis in Music Therapy (2020) and M.M. in Music Therapy from Florida State University (2013).  She received her B.M. in Music Therapy from The University of Alabama (2011). She is a Fellow of the National Institute of Infant and Child Medical Music Therapy and is a collaborator in the Early Notes Network, a music therapy consortium for childhood neurodevelopment.

 

Matthew Shipes

Dr. Matthew Shipes is the Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at The University of Georgia and tubist with the Georgia Brass Quintet. A dedicated advocate of tuba and euphonium performance and pedagogy, Matt works in several roles with the International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA). He both writes and edits articles as an associate editor of the ITEA Quarterly Journal “Experts’ Excerpts” column, and also serves as Membership Marketer, communicating with an international audience of enthusiasts, students and professionals.
