Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Greetings from the Hugh Hodgson School of Music! I know this has been a very unusual summer, and I appreciate all of your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we all try to find the best path forward. As the University of Georgia prepares for reopening and the return to campus, we want to update you on our plans for fall operations in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music.

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Brett Bawcum as Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Director of Bands. Dr. Bawcum has been serving as Acting Director of Athletic Bands since August, 2019. The Director of Athletic Bands also serves as Director of the Redcoat Marching Band, widely respected as one of the finest collegiate marching bands in the world.

Join us on Wednesday, March 4th at 5:30 in Ramsey Hall for Maggie Snyder's exciting faculty recital.



The upcoming March 4, 2020 faculty recital will feature 3 premieres of new music written for viola alone and for viola and piano, including the winning composition of the VIOLA2020 Call for Scores. VIOLA2020 is a year-long commissioning project celebrating the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

The University of Georgia’s premiere choral ensemble will perform in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music Thursday Scholarship Series Mar. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Hall. The UGA Hodgson Singers feature the university’s best undergraduate singers. 

University of Georgia Franklin Professor of Violin, Levon Ambartsumian, will be performing his Faculty Artist Series concert Mar. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Hall. His program features works of the Schumanns and their circle.



Joining him on the stage will be professor of piano Evgeny Rivkin, who is Ambartsumian’s life-long friend and music partner. Included in their program is a selection of short pieces composed for different instruments performed on violin, most famously Schumann's “Violin Sonata.”

Join the Hugh Hodgson School of Music UGA Symphony Orchestra for a Friday night concert of two of music’s most celebrated symphonists, Ludwig von Beethoven and Gustav Mahler in Hodgson Hall Feb. 28.
